Nero is helping to change Dundas Street west from a sleepy Portuguese village to a vibrant, hip and trendy dining and shopping destination much like Queen West and Little Italy.
Nero is small, seven storey condo with 5,000 square feet of ground floor shopping, blending the building with the rest of the retail along Dundas Street West. The city needs more condos like 209 Manning, dramatically designed condo without being overbearing, but integrated with the streetscape and neighbourhood. This strip was originally called Little Portugal. The developer’s grandfather, a Portuguese immigrant, bought the site in 1973 to serve as a corner hardware store. Today the area is quickly transforming to all things hip and trendy.
There’s a ton of favourite hotspots for brunch and nightlife within steps of Nero. Restaurant names like “Saving Grace” a Sunday brunch favourite and “Black Hoof” for a charcuterie are just one of the many popular restaurants lining the strip. “Queen and Ossi” is just a couple of blocks away, a dining, nightlife and shopping destination. There are so many dining gems close by that attract patrons from all over the city. To top it off, Trinity Bellwoods Park, Kensington Market and Little Italy are all a short stroll from Nero.
Nero means black in Portuguese. The catchy name comes from the black brick that clads the 7 storey building and the dark and inviting lobby. This intimate building with 75 units and 9 townhouses is very appealing to residents downsizing from the neighbourhood or buyers looking to get into the neighbourhood. Not a lot of investors and renters.
Nero is a combination of condo apartments, two storey “lofthouses” (a condo with 10 ft ceiligns) and townhouses. The main entrance to the building is along Manning Avenue. Suites up to the 6th floor have 9 ft ceilings and the suites on the 7 th floor have 10 foot ceilings. The building is staggered in design to offer terraces on the 5th and 7th floor. These terraces are equipped with a gas barbecue connection. Suites in the building range from 404 sq ft to 1093 sq ft for condos with a majority of suites around 600s qft, 891 to 1394sq ft for lofthouses and 1537 to 1774 sq ft townhouses. The townhouses share a private courtyard. The finishes are modern and with a euro feel. Kitchen have flat panel cabinetry, quartz countertops and glass mosaic backsplash. The kitchens are equipped for gas cooking. The floors are engineered hardwood.
With a building this small, to keep maintenance fees under control, Nero offers just a lounge and a gym.
