One Park West is a 13 storey “Bauhaus”inspired building and 51 townhomes located on the north west corner of Dundas Street East and east of Parliament. Both townhouses and condo apartments feature LEED gold certification for environmental design.

The developer, Daniels was applauded for the environmental features like double paned, low-emmitance glass windows, water efficient faucets and dual flush toilets, bicycle storage to promote more environmentally friendly transportation.

Some highlights of the building include a “Root Café” and the “Treehouse”, the penthouse level of the building featuring all the amenities; gym, home theatre, lounge and terrace.

It was nice to see that 9ft ceilings are standard in all suites, even 4” baseboards. Laminate hardwood flooring runs throughout the suite even the bedrooms. This simple upgrade can make smaller spaces look more expansive.

The kitchen finishes are contemporary with modern flat panel cabinetry, porcelain tile backsplash and stainless steel appliances. The bathroom countertops are finished with marble and the laundry with front loading. The finishes are on par if not better than the majority of condos we see downtown. This was a pleasant surprise considering the building is located in Regent Park.

The revitalization of Regent Park included tearing down 2,000 low income rentals and replacing them with 3,000 modern condos, it was the city’s opportunity to renew and gentrify a crumbling part of the city and shake off its reputation of a ghetto. The goal of the Regant Park redevelopment was to end up like some areas in St Lawrence Market , a successful example of how integrating market condos with identical lower income housing rentals creates a livable and desirable urban neighbourhood. Regent Park is diverse, the neighbourhood is made up of old, young, single, couples, gay, families, every colour and ethnicity. Living in Regant Park is a taste of real city living, not the snotty neighbourhood living of uptown or the keeping of with the Joneses of downtown. Regant Park is being exposed to neighbours of different ethnicities and different backgrounds and feeling like you belong to one community. The redevelopment is taking place over 6 phases and spans 69 acres. It includes a 6 acre park, a new community centre, 40,000 square feet of retail including a Sobey’s fresh co, rbc and Paintbox bistro. The parks will hosts weekly farmer markets, a greenhouse, playgrounds, picnic area, splash pads and an off leash dog park. What I’m really excited about is the new aquatic centre. This centre includes a swimming and lap pool with water slides.
